Opening Reception and Artist Talk

Having Nana’s eyes watch over us in her 400 postcard series called “Quest” was such an amazing honor to have within our gallery for the month of December!
At her artist talk on December 11th, Nana talked about how her works depict the archetypal hero and “quest” from childhood to adulthood. Each of her ganache postcards contained a set of eyes that tend to watch the viewer as you move along the gallery space. Nana explained that the eyes in her works are about a higher power always watching over you and making sure you are never alone. Whether it is God, any religious icon you believe in, or even someone dear to you who may have passed away who is now above us, the eyes give a sense of totality and calmness of knowing you are never truly alone.
We would also like to thank everyone who participated in the Family Arts Programs that was held three Saturdays in December! Inspired by Nana’s exhibit, families were able to create their own “quest” postcard using watercolors, markers, and their imagined journeys.

Nana was born in France and emigrated to the United States in 1981. She lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. She uses a wide variety of media to create pictorial pieces that impact the viewer on several physical, mythological and emotional levels. Her work explores the boundaries of imagination.
Nana’s art is a vigorous affirmation of the feelings that unfold in her life, and explores both the worlds in and around her and their relationship to each other. The work seems to seek out its own monumental style.
"This work is about the sacred world that exists between human beings and nature. To reach the place within that spiritual dimension where our daily ritual is woven into Mother Nature herself." ~Nana
